It depends. Some offices have waiting lists, a steady flow of new patients, and have all their systems in check. That team may be ready for the insurance drop alone. Often however, dental offices benefit greatly from participating in my other programs first to ensure that they are ready to drop insurances and not harm the practice significantly. For example, the Patient Experience Accelerator Training can help an office differentiate and grow in a quality way so that the practice has more patients who value their services and can afford to withstand an insurance network change. Having front office systems running most effectively for profitability and also for the patient experience is also ideal before making the drop. The programs work together to move a dental practice in the direction of being completely out of network with insurance, but each office has a different starting point of where they are at.
The comfort amenities are built into the time you typically already take to get acquainted or reacquainted with the patient. They naturally become part of the check in and check out process. With systems for implementing the comfort items, their implementation does not add treatment time.
I love a challenge and have not met an office that couldn’t improve some of their systems. Often we do what is best for the office, not thinking about how that can negatively impact how a patient internalizes that interaction. The strategies I’ve developed accomplish the goal of a positive patient experience that builds trust but also does what is profitable for the practice. Every office I’ve worked with has learned strategies for providing better patient service and also have saved the practice money or made the practice more money.
